A suspected trafficker of methamphetamine or \u201cice\u201d pleaded guilty yesterday in Superior Court to the offense of illegal possession of a controlled substance and was slapped with the maximum sentence of five years imprisonment. <\/p>\n
Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho ordered Songtao Gu to serve the five years in jail day for day, without the possibility of parole, probation, or early release.<\/p>\n
Gu, 43, also known as Another Way, Little Kingdom, and Gambler, was given credit for time served. He was ordered to pay a $2,000 fine.<\/p>\n
Camacho directed the clerk of court to provide the U.S. Department of Homeland Security-Immigration and Customs Enforcement a copy of the sentencing order. Gu is a Chinese national.<\/p>\n
The Office of the Attorney General filed an information last Feb. 23 charging Gu with trafficking of controlled substance and illegal possession of controlled substance. The charges carry a total maximum sentence of 25 years prison term.<\/p>\n
Last April 23, OAG filed an amended information that charged the defendant with only illegal possession of controlled substance. The offense carries a maximum sentence of five years prison term.<\/p>\n
Gu has no prior conviction.<\/p>\n
According to the factual basis of the plea deal, Gu unlawfully possessed approximately 7.7 gross grams of crystal methamphetamine on Feb. 22, 2017 on Saipan.<\/p>\n
According to the CNMI Drug Enforcement Task Force, a cooperating defendant was able to buy $150 worth of \u201cice\u201d from Gu last Feb. 17 at the latter\u2019s house in Garapan.<\/p>\n
The cooperating defendant allegedly managed to purchase $80 more worth of \u201cice\u201d from the defendant during a \u201cbuy-walk\u201d operation at his house last Feb. 21.<\/p>\n
