{"id":250663,"date":"2017-04-21T06:06:12","date_gmt":"2017-04-20T20:06:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=250663"},"modified":"2017-04-21T06:06:12","modified_gmt":"2017-04-20T20:06:12","slug":"community-briefs-april-21-2017","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/community-briefs-april-21-2017\/","title":{"rendered":"COMMUNITY BRIEFS &#8211; April 21, 2017"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Traditional healing featured on \u2018Your Humanities Half-Hour\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Haya Foundation president Zita Pangelinan will be the featured guest on this Sunday\u2019s \u201cYour Humanities Half-Hour\u201d radio program.<\/p>\n<p>The Haya Foundation was established on Guam more than a decade ago to promote, preserve, and perpetuate traditional healing practices which utilizes plant-based medicines administered by skilled practitioners.<\/p>\n<p>Pangelinan will discuss the state of traditional healing on Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan, and the Foundation\u2019s ongoing activities to keep this valuable cultural practice alive and well throughout the archipelago.  <\/p>\n<p>Last year, University of Guam professor Dr. Tricia A. Lizama produced a documentary film entitled \u201cAmot para I Hinemlo\u2019ta\u201d which will be screened during the upcoming Flame Tree Festival.  <\/p>\n<p>This film, supported by a grant from the Northern Marianas Humanities Council, features interviews with   traditional healers on Guam, Rota, and Saipan. <\/p>\n<p>Pangelinan will also discuss a planned second phase of work which will formally record testimonials of individuals who have been treated by traditional healers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYour Humanities Half-Hour,\u201d which airs each Sunday from 2pm to 2:30pm on Power 99, is hosted by Catherine Perry Harris. (PR)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lions Club Health Fair on April 30<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The public is invited to the Lions Clubs International District 204 Guam CNMI Region II Annual Health Fair on April 30, 2017, from 8am to 12pm at the Mt. Carmel Dai-Dai Social Hall. The Health Fair will offer free blood pressure, sugar\/glucose testing, hearing test, vision check, free reading glasses, and cancer and general health awareness information that will improve and maintain a healthy life. Celebrating the 100th anniversary of Lions Clubs International we invite you to join us as we participate in continued community services throughout the world. Nimitz Golf Course, Agat Bay<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>ASAN, Guam\u2014The Navy will conduct parachute operation training at the former Adm. Chester Nimitz Golf Course and Agat Bay during the following dates and times:<\/p>\n<p>April 21 from 6am to 1pm at the former Adm. Chester Nimitz Golf Course in Barrigada<\/p>\n<p><strong>April 23 from 9am to 6:30pm in Agat Bay<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>These trainings are designed to enhance the readiness of military personnel.
