May is dedicated to the man\u2019amko and adults are encouraged to reevaluate the meaning of aging this month. Here are some poems I\u2019ve written on that subject. Now past the age of 67 I\u2019ve had a little time to practice.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Baby Boomers: Another Day In The Life<\/strong><br \/>\nWe all grow older with every breath<br \/>\nFilling casinos, buffets, hospitals, and spas<br \/>\nDealing with aging and inevitable death<br \/>\nReplacement knees, hips, \u2018push em up\u2019 girdles and bras<br \/>\nSpending millions on balding and dyeing gray hair<br \/>\nFalling arches, sagging guts, butts, shots of botox<br \/>\nWaking up each morning with new pains everywhere<br \/>\nSpecialists give us bad news and a price that shocks<br \/>\nPricing new models of an electric wheel chair<br \/>\nTrying new fad diets and old vitamin spin<br \/>\nIgnoring our flab and farting everywhere<br \/>\nRationalizing fat food we eat is no sin<br \/>\nHoping, praying to cure our cancer and tumors<br \/>\nAnother day in the life of baby boomers<\/p>\n<p><strong>Old Friends Forever (OFF)<\/strong><br \/>\nI was happy with my old buddy<br \/>\nsome trails were dry some muddy<br \/>\nI was happy with my sweetheart<br \/>\neven when it was time for us to part<br \/>\nI remember with complete delight<br \/>\nhow we would laugh after a stupid fight<br \/>\nand how those loving and friendly smiles<br \/>\nlasted on life\u2019s road for miles and miles<br \/>\nour love and friendship grew day and night<br \/>\non sunny days and under the moon light<br \/>\nfrom budding plants till frost grew on the vine<br \/>\nsharing love and food finding truth in wine<br \/>\nthough we friends and sweethearts all age<br \/>\ntogether against eternal night we all rage<br \/>\nand every morning glad I can still see<br \/>\nthe results of long term friendship for me<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n<strong>Grandparents: A boomer sonnet<\/strong><br \/>\nDo you remember your grandparents, even the in-laws?<br \/>\nBoth sides from your biological mother and dad?<br \/>\nDid you have special names for them,\u2018Opa\u2019,\u2019Mamaw\u2019, and \u2018Papaw\u2019?<br \/>\nDid they always hug and comfort you when you were sad?<br \/>\nDid they favor an older sister or a younger brother?<br \/>\nWere some dead before you were born or soon after?<br \/>\nDid they give you all the same presents or one thing then another?<br \/>\nWhen they came by did you know you were in for laughter?<br \/>\nAre you one now? Do your grandkids live very far away?<br \/>\nDo you enjoy the drive to see them, like to watch them play?<br \/>\nAre your kids not too happy when for a week you\u2019ll stay?<br \/>\nAre your grandkids the smartest and cutest no matter what others say?<br \/>\nSo Gramps, Grams, grumpy Grandpa, and gentle Grammies<br \/>\nEnjoy your grandkids, sunburned, dirty, or in their jammies<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The month of May has been designated Older Americans Month in the CNMI.
