The premier golf tournament on Saipan is just around the corner as the 22nd Governor\u2019s Tournament of Champions will be held earlier this year.<\/p>\n
Instead of August, the Governor\u2019s TOC will now be held on May 27 and 28 on the west and east courses of the Laolao Bay Golf & Resort.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re going back to the original date of the Governor\u2019s TOC. When the event started in 1996, we have it around May at the Kingfisher Golf Links,\u201d TOC chair Ben Babauta said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve been getting requests from players to change the date of the tournament because in the past several years when we have the event in August, the weather was a bit tough. Also, the new date will somehow make the Governor\u2019s TOC the culmination of the golf tournaments on Saipan, sort of our version of The Masters, as other competitions\u2014NMC Open and Hyatt Golf Classic\u2014are done. The golfers have warmed-up and ready to show their A game in this premier tournament,\u201d Babauta added.<\/p>\n
Though the date of the event has changed, the Governor\u2019s TOC will still have the same categories: Championship Flight, A, B, C, Ladies (Low Gross and Low Net), Seniors, and Super Seniors. Entrance fees are $200 for both days and deadline for submission of payment and registrations forms is on May 26 at 4pm.<\/p>\n
Hundreds of thousands worth of cash, in-kind, and raffle prizes will be awarded at the end of the tournament, which aims to raise funds for the continuing beatification efforts on Saipan.<\/p>\n
Entry forms are available online at tocsaipan.com and they can also be picked up and dropped off at T Galleria\u2019s Administration Office on the second floor of DFS from Monday to Friday at 10am to 4pm. <\/p>\n
