I live in Kagman village. I am a teacher, and had been living alone for quite sometime now. I wake up at 5am daily, regardless whether it’s wet or dry, Monday or Sunday, working or on vacation. I start off my day with a prayer of thanksgiving and end with guidance. My life is pretty much routine, even though I know the sun don’t always shine each day. With lobo playing in the background, and three cups of my favorite coffee, the blend 117, I’m ready to roll. You can find me either in my yard bush cutting, in my classroom, or running errands downtown. By the time I’m halfway done with my “to do” list, it’s bedtime. I do not own a washing machine, so I drop off my laundry once every two weeks. I eat on the run, so it’s ether a sandwich or something out of a can. I’m what most people call “jack-of-all-trades” so I do my own yard, minor maintenance around the house, and, oh yeah, plumbing. So if there were any leaking pipes I would know.

Abby, I say all that to say, how could I have consumed 20,000 gallons of water in 30 days? I have disputed the water bill so many times, but to no avail. CUC ran out of excuses, like, they’ve detected a leak, yet no one showed up to show me where the leak is, or maybe my neighbors are stealing water when I’m not home. Mind you, the closest neighbor I have is from a working class, a teacher himself, and the other three are unoccupied. My guess is that, the meter reader is either high on something or flunked Math 101. Anyway, Abby, please help, I could use some answers right now.

Josepha Kaipat
Kagman, Saipan

Dear Abby: My name is Josepha Kaipat.
