Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. board nominee Leticia Reyes suggests that the first thing they must do, if ever they are confirmed by the Senate, is to look into the hospital\u2019s finances.<\/p>\n
Reyes, a nurse practitioner, is one of Gov. Ralph DLG Torres\u2019 nominees to the board, along with Lauri Ogumoro and David Rosario. Torres has yet to name his board nominees from Tinian and Rota. <\/p>\n
The Senate is expected to decide on their confirmation either today or at their next session.<\/p>\n
Reyes said that reviewing its finances is needed before the board could make any suggestions to improve services and facilities of the CNMI\u2019s lone and public hospital. \u201cWe must look into the finances if everything is possible. If we could do it or not.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI know the hospital can generate revenues. We just need to study how we could do it. We have to organize the system first before we could look into improvements. Once our finances are set, then we should be fine. Everything is possible,\u201d she added.\u201d<\/p>\n
Reyes believes her background as a nurse practitioner is an asset. She was the hospital\u2019s former director of nursing and transferred to the CNMI Public School System to head the nursing assistant program in 2012. She now works at the Saipan Health Clinic.<\/p>\n
\u201cI want to also know the problems of the nursing department since it is close to my heart. But before the board could implement something or suggest changes, we have to look at the finances,\u201d Reyes said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m optimistic that the nominees for this board would work together with CHCC and the hospital\u2019s officials to improve service to our people. We just have to know how to deal with the finances and other money matters.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s so much we could do but we don\u2019t have any solid facts yet. If ever we\u2019re confirmed, the board needs to meet first before we could suggest anything on the improvements.\u201d<\/p>\n
