Acting Department of Lands and Natural Resources secretary Anthony T. Benavente is in familiar territory, having been with the agency for more than 20 years. He is a former director of the Division of Parks and Recreation and also served in the same capacity under different administrations before entering politics.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is still a challenging stage and a bit hard. I\u2019ve been at Parks and Recreation at DLNR where I served for 20 some years as director. I\u2019ve been in an acting capacity in past administrations. I know some issues but then again there are new ones that are coming up,\u201d said Benavente.<\/p>\n
\u201cLike what I\u2019ve said, I\u2019m going to take it one day at a time and do my best in serving the public. I will work with the administration to address the pressing matters and other issues that might arise.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI will also make sure we comply with the new issues that are coming up. I know there are solutions we could work on to fix any new problem,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Benavente said he has been meeting with division heads and the entire staff in order to establish a good working relationship. \u201cI\u2019m still trying to learn again. Checking with the latest issues in the department and what\u2019s going on.\u201d<\/p>\n
Benavente, a former Precinct 3 representative, replaced then acting chief Eli Cabrera who briefly headed the agency following the death of former secretary Richard B. Seman in April.<\/p>\n
He has yet to get confirmation from the Senate. \u201c[If confirmed], I\u2019ll just continue to do what the late secretary had been doing, making sure we comply with all federal and local regulations.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI would also continue the efforts in getting federal funding and do our best to implement the regulations bestowed on DLNR. To follow what regulations are there, regarding wildlife, agriculture or recreation.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is just something that we need to continue doing and to make sure we\u2019re making it better, to serve the public right and in a respectful manner.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
