(Ferdie de la Torre)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The 24-hour, full-scale, all-hazard exercise called Konfitma kicked off yesterday with five scenarios, including a Drug Enforcement Administration agent who was \u201ckilled\u201d due to gas exposure after a meth lab was \u201cfound\u201d at the former La Fiesta Mall in San Roque.<\/p>\n<p>As of press time, the biggest and fifth scenario\u2014another meth lab is \u201cdiscovered\u201d at the former Telesource Building in As Gonno\u2014was still ongoing. <\/p>\n<p>When Saipan Tribune left the scene, at least four \u201cbad guys\u201d were \u201ckilled\u201d by law enforcement snipers. Members of the Department of Public Safety\u2019s elite Tactical Response Enforcement Team also barged inside the building.<\/p>\n<p>Public information specialist Daisy Demapan said the other scenarios involved an \u201caircraft crash\u201d near the Francisco C. Ada-Saipan International Airport, two shooters and an unmarked package at the departure terminal, and a search warrant at MIHA Housing for possible bio-terrorism.<\/p>\n<p>In the meth lab scenario at the former La Fiesta Mall, responders found \u201cmustard gas\u201d and five DEA agents were \u201cexposed\u201d to the gas, Demapan said.<\/p>\n<p>Demapan said medics brought the five DEA agents to the Commonwealth Healthcare Center but one was declared \u201cdead on arrival.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>No one was \u201cinjured\u201d in the plane crash scenario.<\/p>\n<p>Demapan said the two \u201cactive shooters\u201d have been apprehended and the \u201cunmarked package\u201d was contained.<\/p>\n<p>Federal Bureau of Investigation agents \u201cserved\u201d a warrant in the MIHA Housing scenario.<\/p>\n<p>Demapan said over 200 personnel participated at this year\u2019s Konfitma. <\/p>\n<p>The participants are from DPS, Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services, Commonwealth Ports Authority, MIHA, Emergency Operations Center, Civil Support Team, and other agencies. Personnel from Tinian and Rota also joined the exercise. <\/p>\n<p>Acting special assistant for CNMI Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management Pete Leon Guerrero said this training is comprehensive. In some cases, the first responders were presented with scenarios they\u2019ve never come across.<\/p>\n<p>Konfitma is an annual exercise that started in 2009 on Saipan.
