{"id":254691,"date":"2017-06-20T06:06:12","date_gmt":"2017-06-19T20:06:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=254691"},"modified":"2017-06-20T06:06:12","modified_gmt":"2017-06-19T20:06:12","slug":"application-period-extended-libday-float-competition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/application-period-extended-libday-float-competition\/","title":{"rendered":"Application period extended for LibDay float competition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Saipan Mayor\u2019s Office has extended the submission date for those who want to participate in the 2017 Liberation Day float competition. <\/p>\n<p>According to Saipan Mayor David M. Apatang, the submission period for float competition applications has been extended to June 26.<\/p>\n<p>Once all float applications are in, participants must be briefed on June 28. <\/p>\n<p>As of today, nine float participants have already submitted their applications for the Liberation Day festivities that will start this Saturday, June 24. <\/p>\n<p>Apatang said the confirmed marchers for the Liberation Day parade on July 4 include representatives of the Japanese community, the Chinese association, and hopefully more. <\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s parade will also be significant because the Saipan Mayor\u2019s Office and the Office of the Governor will be joining this year\u2019s parade with their own floats. <\/p>\n<p>According to Apatang, when the idea was brought up with the governor\u2019s office to join the parade and build their own float, the governors\u2019 office was extremely supportive of the idea. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe governor has always been very supportive of our Liberation Day festivities,\u201d said Apatang. <\/p>\n<p>For parade participants, floats must be lined up and ready to go from 1pm to 3pm so that the parade can start at exactly 4pm on July 4.  Competition floats will be judged before the start of the parade.<\/p>\n<p>The opening of the Liberation Day festival will be on Saturday, June 24, at 6pm. <\/p>\n<p>As for the Liberation Day grounds preparations, the mayor\u2019s office is just finalizing all the booths and making finishing touches.
