(Contributed Photo)\n\t\t\t\t<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n<p>The Joeten-Kiyu Public Library capped its \u201cBuild a Better World\u201d on June 30, 2017, with the 11th Annual Collaborative Summer Library Program.<\/p>\n<p>A total of 141 children ages 6 years old to 12 years old participated in an intensive two-week-long session filled with reading, arts and craft activities, engineering and science activities, movie days, computer classes, guest presentations, field trips, and more.<\/p>\n<p>Acting JKPL director Erlinda Cabrera Naputi, who shared the importance of literacy, said that because of the Collaborative Summer Library Program, \u201cour children read over 1,500 books in a span of two weeks. Congratulations, children, families, guest presenters, sponsors, volunteers, and my hardworking JKPL team!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Participating children received a certificate of completion, an eco-friendly book bag, school supplies, a water bottle, and a raffle draw in which each received a gift certificate from one of the following donors\/sponsors: Regal cinema movie passes and gift certificates from Joeten Enterprises, I Love Saipan, Borderline, Herman\u2019s Modern Bakery, Fiesta Resort &amp; Spa Saipan, Saipan Sea Ventures, Lao Lao Bay Golf &amp; Resort, Pacific Islands Club, and Joeten Ace Hardware.<\/p>\n<p>Naputi pointed out that the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library is the CNMI state library information hub, preserving CNMI\u2019s cultural heritage and connecting people, libraries and government to the resources and tools they need to succeed and to build a strong community.<\/p>\n<p>Paticipants with the \u201cMost Books Read\u201d award were given a magic kit provided by the Friends of the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library. <\/p>\n<p>The top readers are: Kevin Bhujel (Session 1A), Julius Torres (Session 1B), Jose Iguel (Session 2A), and Dereck Rangamar (Session 2B). <\/p>\n<p>A grand prize sponsored by Lollipops for the \u201cOverall Top Reader\u201d was awarded to Kevin Bhujel, who read 50 books in two weeks.<\/p>\n<p>Following the award ceremony, a lively outdoors celebratory carnival was organized in collaboration with Imperial Pacific International Ltd.<\/p>\n<p>Breakfast and lunch were provided by the CNMI Public School System\u2019s Food and Nutrition Service from vendor LSG Sky Chefs. The Friends of the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library donated a celebratory cake for dessert. <\/p>\n<p>An assortment of carnival games were conducted for the children: face painting, IPI\u2019s Arts Caf\u00e9 where children painted original drawings on canvas and kept them for souvenirs, basketball hoop tournaments, and many more.<\/p>\n<p>The Children\u2019s Summer Reading Program at the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library was extended to independent reading activities this July and August. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you were unable to attend the CSLP Summer Program in June, you can participate in independent reading activities at the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library. Participants are required to have a JKPL library card with no pending fees or fines, and fill out a reading log.
