The Marianas Tourism Education Council has received a $3,000 donation from Bridge Capital LLC as it prepares for the 2nd Annual Governor\u2019s Tourism Cup.<\/p>\n

Vicky Benavente, the special assistant for Project Development under the Office of the Governor and MTEC board member, said the Governor\u2019s Tourism Cup was created to support MTEC initiatives and programs.<\/p>\n

\u201cProceeds will help the MTEC continue the educational outreach to all schools, the annual tourism summit, and other tourism-related activities involving the MY WAVE Clubs. MTEC continues to make an impact in our community and truly stands by its mission to make tourism everybody\u2019s business,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s tournament is set for Sept. 2, 2017, and is hosted by the Office of the Governor and the Marianas Visitors Authority.<\/p>\n

On behalf of Gov. Ralph DLG Torres, acting governor Steve K. Mesngon noted the importance of the MTEC and the value it provides to the youth and the community.<\/p>\n

\u201cI echo Governor Torres\u2019 sentiments on the significance of investing in our tourism industry. Earlier this year, MVA and MTEC spearheaded efforts for the CNMI to begin working with TripAdvisor whose online reputation will benefit our marketing efforts. This is only one of many successes, and I extend my appreciation to Bridge Capital for their generous support and sponsorship as we look forward to another successful event,\u201d Mesngon said.<\/p>\n

Former MVA director and tournament director James Nelson said the first tournament garnered enormous support for tourism education.<\/p>\n

\u201cEducating our youth on the importance of tourism continues to be a key part of our collaborative efforts with MVA. We are happy to see this tournament in its second year, and we extend our sincere appreciation to Bridge Capital for their continued generosity,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

MTEC was formed in 2002 to heighten the community\u2019s awareness of the importance of the islands\u2019 tourism industry.<\/p>\n

This includes fostering community understanding and support for the tourism industry by educating the community\u2014especially young students\u2014about the social value and economic contributions, as well as instilling and promoting the\u00a0\u201chafa adai\u201d hospitality spirit throughout the Northern Mariana Islands.<\/p>\n
