{"id":256902,"date":"2017-07-25T06:00:26","date_gmt":"2017-07-24T20:00:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=256902"},"modified":"2017-07-25T06:00:26","modified_gmt":"2017-07-24T20:00:26","slug":"campaign-inspire-pacific-women-launched","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/campaign-inspire-pacific-women-launched\/","title":{"rendered":"Campaign to inspire Pacific women launched"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>NOUMEA, New Caledonia<\/strong>\u2014Representatives of the 26 countries and territories that govern the Secretariat of the Pacific Community who have gathered in Noumea, New Caledonia, this week for the organization\u2019s biennial conference, participated yesterday in the official launch of a regional campaign that celebrates the legacy of Pacific women.<\/p>\n<p>The Inspiring Pacific Women campaign, which also coincides with SPC\u2019s 70th\u00a0anniversary celebrations, will highlight the significant contribution of 70 women or groups of women toward the social, economic, cultura, and political development of SPC\u2019s Pacific Island country and territory members.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at yesterday\u2019s launch, SPC director-general Dr. Colin Tukuitonga said, \u201cWithout the strength and resilience of our women, the Pacific and our communities would be quite different today. We increasingly hear about the Pacific women of our past who broke barriers and inspired so many women\u2014navigators of our Pacific Ocean, sportswomen, writers, and poets. They are all Pacific leaders.
