Sablan (Ind-MP) announced yesterday that the Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. will receive $735,699 in federal funds for programs to prevent youth suicide.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCongratulations to CHCC for successfully competing for this discretionary grant,\u201d Sablan said. \u201cBecause of that successful effort the lives of at-risk young people in the Marianas may be saved.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The five-year grant, awarded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, is intended to help turn around the lives of young people affected by alcohol and drug addictions.<\/p>\n<p>CHCC is one of about 800 state and local governments, hospitals, universities and colleges, and nonprofit groups expected to get the suicide prevention grant this year. The award does not require a match from the Commonwealth government.<\/p>\n<p>Congress provided funding for the program in Public Law 115-31, enacted on May 5 of this year.
