{"id":257870,"date":"2017-08-10T06:06:09","date_gmt":"2017-08-09T20:06:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=257870"},"modified":"2017-08-10T06:06:09","modified_gmt":"2017-08-09T20:06:09","slug":"kantan-isla-revived","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/kantan-isla-revived\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Kantan Isla\u2019 to be revived"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After a silence of 13 years, the indigenous musical festival \u201cKantan Isla\u201d will be revived. <\/p>\n<p>First established on Saipan in 1998, Kantan Isla became an annual event until it was abruptly stopped in 2004. <\/p>\n<p>The current Commonwealth Council of Arts and Culture decided it is about time to revive the tradition. <\/p>\n<p>According to folk art coordinator Gloriana Teuira, this will bring back the art of song writing and performances, even if it is only for an evening. <\/p>\n<p> \u201cWe want to motivate our youth to compose their own music in Chamorro and Carolinian,\u201d Teuira said. <\/p>\n<p>The tradition will also motivate local musicians to share their original pieces. <\/p>\n<p>The music festival would be held on Sept. 29, 2017, at the Garapan Fishing Base, from 5pm to 11pm. <\/p>\n<p>For more information, contact Teuira at 322-9982\/83. <\/p>\n<p>Teuira said the entire community is welcome to experience the joys of indigenous music. <\/p>\n<p>Ten vendor slots are also open for non-profit organizations, families, and churches that want to raise funds.
