(Jon Perez)

Momma Charu used a 10-run scoring binge in the third inning to hammer out a 16-13 decision against Brotherhood in the 2017 Belau Masters Softball League yesterday at the Dandan Softball Field.

The victory improved Momma Charu’s record to 7-3, but more importantly they ended Brotherhood’s 10-game winning run to join Peleliu, which won by default against Red Torch in the other match.

Lee Sibetang led Momma Charu’s eight-hit parade with a lead-off home run in the third to break away from a 3-3 deadlock and worked their way to preserve the lead. Nizer Masayos had a triple in the said inning, while Leo Bobai and Ron Olopai each doubled.

Brotherhood tried to turn things around in the last three innings but came up short, especially when they attempted a late-game comeback in the seventh.

Bobai had a shaky seventh inning and gave up a two-run homer to Kalle Igisomar with Jerry Ayuyu, who had a lead off walk, tagging along to cut Momma Charu’s lead to 16-10.

John Terlaje, who reached first on a Sibetang throwing error, scored on a John Diaz RBI single to make it 16-11. That Brotherhood play sandwiched a Ken Kaipat fly for the first out. Diaz later scored on a Bill Camacho single and the latter added one more run.

Camacho’s run pegged the final count as Momma Charu’s defense held on. Bill Angailen, who singled, was caught on a 6-4 putout play, while Joe Lizama was tagged out heading to first to end the game.

Kuich Damian homered and had three RBIs, while Bernard Keleleman also blasted a solo round-tripper in the fifth inning. Ed Kapileo scored thrice and Olopai finished with two doubles.

Bobai and Payton Sakuma had a double each, and Fawnny Kelulau, Mars Keleleman, and Ben Tagabuel had a single apiece to contribute to Momma Charu’s 15 hits.

Sufa moved to 4-7 after a 14-11 win over Asahi, while Peleliu forced a tie for the lead with Brotherhood after winning by default against Red Torch, which dropped their 10th straight game. The SA Masters (5-6) also won by default over the C.K. Bears (2-8).

[5
18001,17989,18002,133
post-258523","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-sports","tag-bernard-keleleman","tag-momma-charu","tag-red-torch","tag-run
["GET
