Francisco Aguon (R-Saipan) continues to push the installation of streetlights throughout Kagman.

Since taking his seat as a representative in the 20th Legislature, Aguon has been advocating for streetlights in Kagman 1, 2, and 3.

Aguon lamented how dark Kagman streets get in the evenings due to the lack of lights, saying this puts a damper on the feeling of safety residents.

He also believes that, if the streets are well lit, people would have a choice of walking to and from nearby places like the store or the laundromat.

Unfortunately, funding has been Aguon’s biggest challenge.

As much as he wants to get the project done, he said it has been extremely hard to get the funding needed to carry out the project.

About $112,000 is needed to install streetlights in Kagman 1, 2, and 3.

His priority is the main highway, Route 34, and the community area. According to him, lighting the main highway alone would cost about $8,000.

Aguon has been discussing his plans with the two agencies that are usually involved with streetlights: the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. and the Department of Public Works.

Although the two entities are on board, it all goes back to the funding dilemma, according to Aguon.

Rep.
