(MCS)\n\t\t\t\t<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n<p>Almost 300 middle school and high school students participated in Mount Carmel School\u2019s annual Student Activities Fair held this past Wednesday, Aug. 23, in the first floor hallway of the school\u2019s Maturana Building.<\/p>\n<p>Held at the start of every school year and sponsored by the Student Council, the fair highlights the many extra-curricular activities available at the school. <\/p>\n<p>Throughout the fair, middle school and high school students perused the booths of sponsoring clubs and organizations in order to learn more about the various activities and to sign up for those that interest them.  <\/p>\n<p>Student Council president, Erika Mendiola, was very happy with the turnout at this year\u2019s fair.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile we had a lot more students than last year, it went very smoothly and everyone was satisfied with the clubs that were offered,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Recognizing that the school tries to allow students to experience different activities, \u201cstudents have the opportunity to find another hobby, instead of being stuck in one,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s fair included booths from the school\u2019s athletic teams, Red Cross Club, Theatre Club, Gamers Uknighted (a club for gamers), and two new clubs, a Computer Coding Club and VOX Knights. Taking its name from the Latin word for voice, VOX Knights will bring together students of all grade levels who use their voice in various interscholastic competitions, including National Speech and Debate Association, National Junior Speech and Debate Association, Primary Grade Forensic Competition, Mock Trial, and International Thespian Society.<\/p>\n<p>For its part, the school\u2019s Theatre Club plans to produce two films and two stage shows, including Disney\u2019s Mulan Jr. <\/p>\n<p>The show\u2019s director, Reica Ramirez, looks forward to directing her first production. In particular, Ramirez wants to help students grow. \u201cThis is another amazing opportunity to grow and develop new skills, along with other people.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>When asked why she wanted to direct the show, she said, \u201cI\u2019ve always been interested in drama and I wanted to learn more about productions from back stage, including costumes, set design, music, sound, lights, and, of course, directing.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Ramirez was assistant director for last year\u2019s sold-out performances of Disney\u2019s The Lion King Jr.<\/p>\n<p>Now that clubs and organizations are up and running, they will shift their attention to the upcoming Student Leadership Retreat, in which all activities for the year will be planned out.
