{"id":259097,"date":"2017-08-30T06:06:32","date_gmt":"2017-08-29T20:06:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=259097"},"modified":"2017-08-30T06:06:32","modified_gmt":"2017-08-29T20:06:32","slug":"five-stranded-hunters-rescued-goat-island","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/five-stranded-hunters-rescued-goat-island\/","title":{"rendered":"Five stranded hunters rescued from Goat Island"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>APRA HARBOR, Guam\u2014Five Tinian hunters are home safe after being rescued in a joint effort by the Coast Guard and Navy on Monday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Coast Guard Sector Guam Command Center received notification from the Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands Homeland Security, at 9am local Guam time, requesting assistance in retrieving the stranded hunters off Goat Island, Tinian.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis case illustrates the importance of our partnership with the Navy and the value of hoist capable helicopters to conduct missions\u00a0in our operational area,\u201d said senior chief petty officer Michael Guerrero, command duty officer, Coast Guard Sector Guam Command Center. \u201cThe Coast Guard is always ready to serve and help our communities of Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Sector Guam\u00a0watchstanders\u00a0coordinated with the U.S. Navy&#8217;s Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron-25, stationed at Anderson Air Force Base, Yigo, Guam, to conduct the rescue.<\/p>\n<p>A Navy MH-60S helicopter air crew from HSC-25 arrived on scene at 11:45am and safely hoisted all five hunters and transported them to the Tinian airport. No injuries were reported<\/p>\n<p>The five hunters were reportedly dropped off on Goat Island by boat on Aug. 25, and intended staying until Aug. 27. Due to inclement weather and small craft advisory, a small-boat recovery was not possible.
