{"id":259169,"date":"2017-08-30T06:06:46","date_gmt":"2017-08-29T20:06:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=259169"},"modified":"2017-08-30T06:06:46","modified_gmt":"2017-08-29T20:06:46","slug":"woman-drowns-obyan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/woman-drowns-obyan\/","title":{"rendered":"Woman drowns at Obyan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Korean woman who was reported missing while swimming at Obyan Beach yesterday afternoon was later found dead during a search operation.<\/p>\n<p>This developed as Gov. Ralph DLG Torres issued a special marine advisory due to Tropical Storm Sanvu. Torres urged the public and inexperienced mariners to avoid venturing to exposed reef lines and beaches, especially along west-facing shores, as rip currents were life threatening. <\/p>\n<p>Torres also advised those operating smaller boats to avoid sailing.<\/p>\n<p>A source disclosed that the 34-year-old Korean woman was last seen swimming at Obyan Beach at 4:30pm.<\/p>\n<p>Department of Public Safety Boating Safety Unit personnel then launched a search to locate the victim. <\/p>\n<p>Another source confirmed that the body was recovered and that it\u2019s a drowning case.<\/p>\n<p>As of press time, DPS had yet to release information about the incident. Investigation is ongoing. <\/p>\n<p>The Korean woman is reportedly the fifth ocean\/beach drowning victim this year.<\/p>\n<p>The last drowning incident happened last July 16 when a 26-year-old man who went fishing with a companion was later found dead and is believed to have drowned in the ocean near the Gov. Eloy S. Inos Peace Park in Puerto Rico, Saipan. <\/p>\n<p>As of 7:15pm yesterday, the center of Tropical Storm Sanvu was located about 325 miles north-northeast of Agrihan, 365 miles north-northeast of Pagan, 570 miles of Saipan, and 695 miles north-northeast of Guam.<\/p>\n<p>According to the U.S. National Weather Service in Guam, Sanvu was moving toward the north at 13 miles per hour with maximum sustained winds increased to 50mph.<\/p>\n<p>Sanvu is expected to make a turn toward the northwest with little change in forward speed over the next 24 hours.
