{"id":259208,"date":"2017-08-31T06:00:34","date_gmt":"2017-08-30T20:00:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=259208"},"modified":"2017-08-31T06:00:34","modified_gmt":"2017-08-30T20:00:34","slug":"uscis-expand-person-interview-requirements-certain-immigration-benefit-applicants","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/uscis-expand-person-interview-requirements-certain-immigration-benefit-applicants\/","title":{"rendered":"USCIS to expand in-person interview requirements for certain immigration benefit applicants"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>WASHINGTON<\/strong>\u2014U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) will begin expanding in-person interviews for certain immigration benefit applicants whose benefit, if granted, would allow them to permanently reside in the United States. This change complies with Executive Order 13780, \u201cProtecting the Nation From Foreign Terrorist Entry Into the United States,\u201d and is part of the agency\u2019s comprehensive strategy to further improve the detection and prevention of fraud and further enhance the integrity of the immigration system.<\/p>\n<p>Effective Oct. 1, USCIS will begin to phase-in interviews for the following:<\/p>\n<p>Adjustment of status applications based on employment (Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status).<\/p>\n<p>Refugee\/asylee relative petitions (Form I-730, Refugee\/Asylee Relative Petition) for beneficiaries who are in the United States and are petitioning to join a principal asylee\/refugee applicant.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, applicants in these categories did not require an in-person interview with USCIS officers in order for their application for permanent residency to be adjudicated. Beyond these categories, USCIS is planning an incremental expansion of interviews to other benefit types.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis change reflects the Administration\u2019s commitment to upholding and strengthening the integrity of our nation\u2019s immigration system,\u201d said Acting USCIS Director James W.
