A cascading chain of mishaps on Middle Road late Friday night resulted in four persons being injured, including a police officer.<\/p>\n
In an event being blamed on bad weather, a car hit three pedestrians who were crossing a marked crosswalk and caused the domino effect along Chalan Pale Arnold in Gualo Rai.<\/p>\n
A few minutes after the car hit the pedestrians, another vehicle slid and rear-ended a parked responding police car, and then another vehicle hit a police officer who was directing traffic at the accident scene. <\/p>\n
The three pedestrians were brought by ambulance to the Commonwealth Health Center for treatment. Police officer Bradford Peter, who was hit by a car, was also taken to CHC emergency room for minor injuries to the leg.<\/p>\n
The driver of a car that hit the pedestrians was issued a traffic citation for failing to exercise due care to pedestrians and for failing to yield the right of way to pedestrians on a marked crosswalk. <\/p>\n
Investigators processed the scene and impounded the car that hit the pedestrians.<\/p>\n
Department of Public Safety spokesman Lt. Jason Tarkong said police officers responded on Friday at 11:05pm to the auto-triple pedestrian incident at the northbound inner lane of Chalan Pale Arnold in front of Springs Plaza or OPM office building at the pedestrian crosswalk.<\/p>\n
Highway patrol investigators learned that three pedestrians were crossing the highway on the crosswalk when a vehicle travelling north on the inner lane struck all three of them.<\/p>\n
The driver did not see the crossing pedestrians due to the inclement weather.<\/p>\n
Several marked police cars arrived at the scene to assist. Police cars secured the scene, with emergency blue lights activated to protect the officers, medical personnel, and the injured pedestrians.<\/p>\n
A car traveling north on the inner lane slid and struck a police car parked directly near the crash scene. No one was injured but both vehicles sustained minor damage, Tarkong said.<\/p>\n
About three minutes later, another vehicle travelling south on the inner lane struck Peter, who was directing traffic at the scene. <\/p>\n
Tarkong said investigators learned that the driver was distracted by the accident scene and did not see the officer.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
