{"id":259495,"date":"2017-09-04T06:06:27","date_gmt":"2017-09-03T20:06:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=259495"},"modified":"2017-09-04T06:06:27","modified_gmt":"2017-09-03T20:06:27","slug":"celebrate-labor-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/celebrate-labor-day\/","title":{"rendered":"Why celebrate Labor Day?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last Friday, government agencies all over the Commonwealth jammed the grounds of the Garapan Fishing Base to celebrate Labor Day and kick off a lengthy four-day weekend.<\/p>\n<p>The annual gathering unites individuals all over the island to take a day off, get together for some fun and camaraderie, and celebrate service to the community.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout the year, an average person works roughly over 2,000 hours. The Labor Day holiday was created to honor every individual who works these hours. However, as the years go by, the holiday\u2019s relevance becomes more and more opaque. To find out more, Saipan Tribune went around to ask a few individuals why Labor Day should be celebrate. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cLabor Day is an annual thing that celebrates the labor of all the government employees on island. We have to thank them for all the hard work they put in the past.\u201d<br \/>\n\u2014Eli Cabrera, Division of Parks and Recreations <\/p>\n<p>\u201cLabor Day is dedicated to working individuals who work hard throughout the year. This is the day where different agencies come together to just enjoy themselves in each other\u2019s company.<br \/>\n\u2014Evelyn Sablan, CPA<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEveryday, the staff work hard, day in and day out. It\u2019s extra special to take a day off of work to gather and join with their families and just have fun.\u201d<br \/>\n\u2014Marianne Teregeyo, DPL<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe recognize each other and it\u2019s also motivation to work harder. They are the backbone of the economy. You shouldn\u2019t over-stress yourself.
