Chatfield met with community members and representatives of Prutehi Litekyan yesterday to discuss concerns about recently announced construction plans. 34th Guam Legislature Speaker Benjamin J.F. Cruz attended the meeting as an observer. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s important we listen to community opinions and continue open and transparent dialogue,\u201d said Chatfield. \u201cClose coordination with the government of Guam, environmental agencies and the public enabled us to design and plan facilities that balance national defense with natural and cultural resources management.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Since the beginning of planning efforts for the Marine relocation to Guam, the Department of the Navy has worked to address many concerns including access to the Guam Wildlife Refuge Ritidian Unit, and preservation of natural and cultural resources. <\/p>\n<p>With the award of construction contracts this summer to support the Marine Corps relocation, the DoN has made significant steps necessary to meet the timeline required to begin movement of Marines to Guam anticipated for the mid-2020\u2019s.
