The outreach training program was conducted by chief of safety and in-house authorized-OSHA trainer, Sewell “Skip” Hall.

The 10-Hour OSHA outreach training program is recommended, but is not an employer’s requirement under specific OSHA Standards. The program provides basic safety and health education and information.

The program also provides workers and employers on the recognition, avoidance, abatement, and prevention of safety and health hazards, workers’ rights, employer responsibilities, and how to properly file a complaint with OSHA. Through this training, OSHA helps to ensure that workers are more knowledgeable about workplace hazards and their rights in the construction industry.

“I didn’t foresee the positive impact it would have in so many different ways. Each person learned many things they didn’t know about or were totally unaware of,” said Hall. “To this day, the employees tell me things they see people doing in an unsafe manner outside of our company. I encouraged all 62 of my students to take what they learn in class and apply it not only on the job but also off the job in their daily lives.”

Moreover, back in May of this year, the current head of the BIG Human Resources department, Wayne Sanchez, completed a six-month Human Resources Management program from Cornell University’s School of Labor and Industrial Relations. Cornell, an Ivy League school located in Ithaca, New York, is ranked one of the top 14 school in the nation.

BIG understands the importance and benefits of workforce training. The company will continue to support and take advantage of all types of training that will contribute to each employees’ current and future professional careers.
