The Marianas Visitors Authority is lending its support to the Indigenous Cultural Expo slated for Monday, Oct. 9, on Saipan.<\/p>\n
In addition to being a supporter of the event, the MVA is also sharing the event with visitors through its offshore offices.<\/p>\n
\u201cMany of our visitors have expressed that they want to experience authentic Chamorro and Carolinian culture, so the MVA is proud to be a part of the Indigenous Cultural Expo organized by the Indigenous Affairs Office,\u201d said MVA acting managing director Judy Torres. \u201cShould this become an annual event and with more advanced notice, we can see this becoming increasingly popular with visitors on-island as an added-value event. We congratulate the office on this inaugural event.\u201d<\/p>\n
The expo will be held from 9am to 3pm at Guma\u2019 Sakman, the former 4-H Building in Susupe on the beach. The event is also sponsored by the Carolinian Affairs Office, Imperial Pacific\u2019s Corporate Social Responsibility, and the Lady Diann Torres Foundation.<\/p>\n
Activities will include: singing, dancing, food sales, canoe displays by 500 Sails, and a number of demonstrations, including talaya (throw net) fishing, fish species, hooks and baits, fish cleaning, local produce, local medicine, and various sues of the coconut tree.
