{"id":262224,"date":"2017-10-13T06:00:40","date_gmt":"2017-10-12T20:00:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=262224"},"modified":"2017-10-13T06:00:40","modified_gmt":"2017-10-12T20:00:40","slug":"barbara-alberti-return-amp-superintendent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/barbara-alberti-return-amp-superintendent\/","title":{"rendered":"Barbara Alberti to return as AMP superintendent"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_262228\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-262228\" style=\"width: 645px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Barbara-Alberti_mug.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"645\" height=\"800\" class=\"size-full wp-image-262228\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-262228\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Alberti<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>SAN FRANCISCO<\/strong>\u2014The National Park Service has named Barbara Alberti superintendent of the War in the Pacific National Historical Park in Guam and American Memorial Park in the CNMI. <\/p>\n<p>These two units of the National Park Service are located west of the international dateline at the eastern edge of the Philippine Sea and south of Japan. <\/p>\n<p>Alberti served as the parks\u2019 superintendent from 2009 to 2013. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cBarbara\u2019s strong collaborative leadership skills and deep knowledge of the parks makes her well suited for the position,\u201d said Laura E. Joss, regional director for NPS\u2019 Pacific West Region.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout her NPS career, Alberti has worked in a variety of positions, most recently as the Pacific West region\u2019s lead for conducting internal compliance reviews. She has held temporary superintendent positions at the National Park of American Samoa, and at Pu`uhonua o H\u014dnaunau and Kaloko-Honok\u014dhau National Historical Parks in Hawaii. <\/p>\n<p>Alberti also spent many years working in parks in Arizona and California, including Coronado National Memorial and Whiskeytown National Recreation Area.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe employees at these two parks are so dedicated to honoring the lives of those who sacrificed so much for freedom,\u201d said Alberti. \u201cIt is a privilege to have the opportunity to work with them again. I look forward to reconnecting with old friends, making new ones, and living in Micronesia again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Before joining NPS, she served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Senegal, West Africa, as a natural resources extension agent. She collaborated with a German aid organization, promoting cashew plantations in small villages to provide a cash crop from the nuts and improve nutrition with the cashew apples.<\/p>\n<p>Alberti holds a degree in biology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She speaks German, French, Italian, and Wolof. She has published a number of biological monographs and papers.
