{"id":263113,"date":"2017-10-26T06:06:46","date_gmt":"2017-10-25T20:06:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=263113"},"modified":"2017-10-26T06:06:46","modified_gmt":"2017-10-25T20:06:46","slug":"senate-oks-2-cuc-board-appointees","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/senate-oks-2-cuc-board-appointees\/","title":{"rendered":"Senate OKs 2 CUC board appointees"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Senate approved yesterday two nominees to the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. board of directors, representing Rota and Tinian.<\/p>\n<p>Both Jovita SN Paulino and Miranda V. Manglo\u00f1a were approved to occupy the CUC board as representatives of Tinian and Rota, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Both Paulino and Manglo\u00f1a were recommended by their respective mayor\u2019s offices prior to Gov. Ralph DLG Torres nominating them to the board.<\/p>\n<p>During Manglo\u00f1a\u2019s public hearing last Tuesday, CUC executive director Gary Camacho expressed his support for Manglo\u00f1a to represent Rota.<\/p>\n<p>CUC Rota deputy director Charles Manglo\u00f1a also expressed his support in a written testimony dated Oct. 20, 2017.<\/p>\n<p>The letter said that CUC is \u201cfortunate to have a candidate of [Miranda\u2019s] caliber and dedication,\u201d adding that Miranda cares \u201cdeeply about the quality of utility services for all people in the CNMI.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am excited and looking forward to doing what I need to do,\u201d said Paulino, adding that her view of CUC changed after she toured the CUC office in Dandan last Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am looking forward to working with [Camacho],\u201d said Paulino.<\/p>\n<p>Manglo\u00f1a, on the other hand, plans to restore the trust of CUC customers through transparency.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need to have a reliable, sustainable, and affordable utilities corporation for our community,\u201d said Manglo\u00f1a, not only for Saipan but also on Tinian.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am ready to work with [Camacho], the [other] board of directors of CUC, and CUC staff and management,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Manglo\u00f1a has an administrative background with the Department of Public Safety before moving over to the Department of Labor and dealing with \u201cpersonnel matters.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to Manglo\u00f1a, whenever the Labor chief was off-island, she would take over the department. \u201cI know the process of managing an entire department and its personnel,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Paulino also has background with \u201cenforcement\u201d but did not specify which. Paulino was involved with the Public School System from 1993 to 2008. \u201cWhen I got back here, I\u2026went into a new aspect of employment, which is working for the Tinian Mayor\u2019s Office, which is very challenging and very [enjoyable],\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am looking forward to working with [Manglo\u00f1a], the other board members, and the executive director,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>With the addition of Paulino and Manglo\u00f1a, the CUC board is one step closer to completing its board.
