{"id":263214,"date":"2017-10-27T06:07:09","date_gmt":"2017-10-26T20:07:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=263214"},"modified":"2017-10-27T06:07:09","modified_gmt":"2017-10-26T20:07:09","slug":"red-ribbons-signify-battle-vs-drugs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/red-ribbons-signify-battle-vs-drugs\/","title":{"rendered":"Red ribbons signify battle vs drugs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In recognition of Red Ribbon Week, several students from different schools waved red ribbons along Beach Road yesterday, signifying their commitment to the fight against illegal drugs.<\/p>\n<p>Students and teachers also held up banners and posters.<\/p>\n<p>Shawn Anderson, the acting U.S. attorney for the Districts of Guam and the CNMI, flew from Guam to Saipan yesterday to take part in the ribbon waving.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt&#8217;s a great campaign that\u2026keeps kids discouraged from using drugs,\u201d said Anderson.<\/p>\n<p>Anderson told Saipan Tribune a similar campaign is taking place in the U.S. mainland. \u201cBut I\u2019d have to say the community here supports it more than anywhere I\u2019ve seen in the mainland,\u201d said Anderson. \u201cIt\u2019s really incredible.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>According to Anderson, he was also given the opportunity to spend a day on Tinian and Rota to join the hundreds of students who are spreading awareness about the impact of illegal drugs. <\/p>\n<p>Saipan Southern students Morzina Khan, Lou Vailon, and Daryl Cortez, who took part in yesterday\u2019s ribbon waving, said this was their first time to participate in the campaign and they enjoyed the entire experience.<\/p>\n<p>They said they are aware that drugs play an oversize role in the lives of the youth. <\/p>\n<p>Over 50 students and advocates took part in the red ribbon waving yesterday.
