{"id":263267,"date":"2017-10-27T06:06:30","date_gmt":"2017-10-26T20:06:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=263267"},"modified":"2017-10-27T06:06:30","modified_gmt":"2017-10-26T20:06:30","slug":"cccs-reyes-uncertain-casinos-completion-time","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/cccs-reyes-uncertain-casinos-completion-time\/","title":{"rendered":"CCC\u2019s Reyes uncertain of casino\u2019s completion on time"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An official of the Commonwealth Casino Commission is dubious that Imperial Pacific International (CNMI) LLC would be able to meet its self-imposed deadline to finish the construction of its gaming facility.<\/p>\n<p>Joseph Reyes, who is vice chair of the casino commission, remains skeptical of IPI\u2019s ability to meet the casino completion deadline in October 2018.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[IPI] still faces a setback due to the [lack of] workers,\u201d he said, adding that the Imperial Pacific Resort is a \u2018high-rise building\u201d and Saipan lacks people \u201cwell versed\u201d in working on buildings as high as this.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven those tower crane operators are not easy to find. [Despite this], it was indicated that efforts are taking place in trying to bring U.S. workers in here\u2026I give [IPI] credit for that,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Reyes told Saipan Tribune that IPI claims its planned casino resort is at 62 percent. According to documents Saipan Tribune obtained in mid-September 2017, their current completion rate was also at 62 percent.<\/p>\n<p>When asked if he believes IPI would be able to meet the deadline, Reyes said: \u201cPersonally, I don\u2019t think so.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>He pointed out that the recent bad weather, along with the manpower problems, continue to hinder the progress of the construction.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am sure [IPI is] fully aware of it. They said they are doing the best they can, but one thing they should consider is if a storm comes this way,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>If the deadline next year is not met, Reyes said the Casino License Agreement, or CLA, must once again be amended.
