{"id":263641,"date":"2017-11-02T06:06:24","date_gmt":"2017-11-01T20:06:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=263641"},"modified":"2017-11-02T06:06:24","modified_gmt":"2017-11-01T20:06:24","slug":"revived-kantan-isla-rescheduled","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/revived-kantan-isla-rescheduled\/","title":{"rendered":"Revived Kantan Isla is rescheduled"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Kantan Isla Music Festival that was originally set for the end of September has been moved to Nov. 17. <\/p>\n<p>The festival has been in hiatus after logging over 13 years. The Commonwealth Council of Culture and Arts, under the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs, is determined to revive it this year. <\/p>\n<p>According to CCA executive director Parker Yobei, the event was postponed in September due to the many events in October but the council is still determined to revive it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe postponed it to November because of all the activities going on in October and we didn\u2019t want to so it in the same month,\u201d he said.  <\/p>\n<p>Yobei said the event will showcase original music in the indigenous Chamorro and Carolinian languages. <\/p>\n<p>The event aims to motivate the youth to embrace the indigenous languages. \u201cIt was initiated to encourage the kids to continue writing songs in their own language,\u201d Yobei said.<\/p>\n<p>And it\u2019s not just motivating the indigenous Chamorros and Carolinians. It also seeks to encourage other ethnic groups to play their original songs in their own language. <\/p>\n<p>According to Yobei, folk art coordinator Gloriana Teuira has already started to finalize the program for the event. <\/p>\n<p>Yobei said there would be a raffle drawing and incentives for participating individuals. <\/p>\n<p>Local artists will also be provided space to sell their CDs and promote their music. <\/p>\n<p>Ten vendor slots are also open for non-profit organizations, families, and churches that want to raise funds. The council will be providing tents but a $25 park and recreation fee is required. <\/p>\n<p>The Kantan Isla Music Festival would be held on Nov. 17 at the Garapan Fishing Base, from 5pm to 11pm.
