The program is not new as this actually started in the U.S. many years ago. In Guam, McDonald’s hosts the event every month,” she said.

“Here on Saipan, we want to be able to facilitate building good ties and promote zero barriers between law enforcement and people. We believe Coffee with a Cop is a good start,” she added.

Another goal of the Coffee with a Cop event is to encourage citizens to talk about issues and concerns they have in their neighborhood with the police.

“It’s a fact that talking to a person in authority like the police can be intimidating. It’s also a fact that the police are more often than not busy with the work that they do. So we see this event as a vehicle for people to comfortably talk about the situation in their neighborhood and expect the police to be attentive and to listen intently,” said Olaes.

“When the event is over, both the police and the citizens would have a clearer understanding of each other’s position in the community and that they should always work hand in hand in keeping a peaceful community,” she added.

Olaes said that a lot of crimes have been written in the newspapers and seen on TV and these can be issues that people can talk to the police about.

“The atmosphere that we will create is a friendly and trustworthy one so it will be really conducive to a good conversation. We hope other establishments will follow suit to have more events like this possible for the community,” she said.

“We would like to invite everyone and assure them that they can come as they are as Coffee with a Cop is an informal thing and interaction is important than anything else,” Olaes added.

McDonald’s Saipan is hosting the first Coffee with a Cop on Saipan in cooperation with…

[11
18910,1306,67,406
post-263722","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-business","tag-anna-olaes","tag-middle-road","tag-people","tag-tv
["GET
