Ralph DLG Torres is \u201cgenuinely concerned\u201d about public safety in the wake of reports about unsolved crimes, missing people, and other safety concerns within the community.<\/p>\n<p>According to press secretary Kevin Bautista, Torres has already initiated necessary discussions addressing \u201cpublic safety concerns\u201d as well as ultimately allowing for improved rapport between the public and the Department of Public Safety.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo be clear, no one in our closely-knit community deserves to feel unsafe or feel less secure in their homes or villages,\u201d said Bautista, adding that Torres is in talks with the Department of Public Safety, the Office of the Attorney General, and the public to \u201censure that our island community will be safer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe governor looks forward to working with DPS, the Attorney General\u2019s Office, and our community to address our collective concerns and implement effective measures to ensure greater transparency in communication with the community,\u201d Bautista said.<\/p>\n<p>Torres \u201cappreciates and commends\u201d DPS but also recognizes that the department functions with \u201climited resources,\u201d Bautista added.<\/p>\n<p>In a social media post, Rep. Edwin K. Propst (Ind-Saipan) criticized DPS for a lack of direct communication with the public. According to the post, Propst believes DPS Commissioner Robert Guerrero \u201cneeds to hold a press conference\u201d to update the public.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe public has a ton of questions and we are getting no statements and no answers,\u201d said Propst. \u201cHe needs to give us some direction, some advice, [anything].\u201d <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Gov.
