Bordallo (D-GU) announced Saturday that the U.S. Department of Defense\u2019s Office of Economic Adjustment has awarded the government of Guam two grants, totaling $129,914,022, for civilian infrastructure projects related to the realignment of Marines to Guam. <\/p>\n<p>Bordallo secured funding for these projects in previous years\u2019 appropriations bills and last year included a provision in the fiscal year 2017 National Defense Authorization Act that lifted restrictions on the funding placed by the Senate.<\/p>\n<p>The Office of the Governor was awarded $12 million for the final planning and design, program and construction management services, and construction of a Guam cultural repository.<\/p>\n<p>The Guam Waterworks Authority was awarded $117,914,022 for construction funding for upgrades to the northern district wastewater treatment plant.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am pleased the Department of Defense is moving forward and providing GovGuam with funding I secured for civilian infrastructure projects related to the Marine realignment,\u201d said Bordallo. \u201cThese projects are critical to mitigating impacts to our island and ensure that the buildup is good for both our civilian and military communities. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cOver the past several years, I have worked hard to secure and protect funding for these projects and address concerns in the Senate. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI look forward to GovGuam utilizing these funds to establish a cultural repository for artifacts recovered during military construction and make much needed upgrades and enhancements to our civilian water and wastewater system.\u201d (PR)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WASHINGTON, D.C.\u2014Delegate Madeleine Z.
