I will never forget my first grade teacher, Mrs. Somol from Garapan Elementary School. She had beautiful long hair and the most calming smile.

My career in education began when I first decided to become an educator. I was in second grade when I made that decision and I never changed my mind.

I entered the Teacher Academy Program back in 1994 at Marianas High School and never looked back.

Q: What would be the most positive and most troublesome definition of Tanapag Middle School?

A: Troublesome? The facilities, it needs a lot of updating and fixing. Positive, the students and the staff. I am surrounded by some of the most respectful individuals on the island. There are a lot of beautiful hearts at Tanapag Middle School.

Q: What is your plan for Tanapag Middle School now that you’re the principal?

A: Like most principals, I want Tanapag Middle School to be the best. I want Tanapag Middle School to be technologically ready and advanced. I want students to feel challenged, proud, and happy to learn.

Q: If you could wish for a superpower, what would it be?

A: I wish I have the power to shield students from unnecessary pain and challenges that keep them from learning.

Q: What motivates you and what can motivate students to stay positive and do well?

A: I get highly motivated when I see someone having a Eureka moment. It reminds you that you have done something good. I love seeing kids wanting to learn and doing something with their learning. When students believe that they can do anything, nothing is impossible.

Q: If you have one, who is your role model?

A: I have many role models. Every person is different and so I learn a little from everyone that has touched my life, one way or another.

Q: What would you wish for all the CNMI students for the new school year?

A: I wish for all students to believe in themselves and the great things they can do. There is so much to discover, explore, invent, question, connect, and learn. I challenge students to do one or more of those things.

***
Megino is an 8th grade student at Tanapag Middle School.

Q: How did you get your start?
