Gov. Victor B. Hocog intends to run for a Senate seat in the 2018 general election.<\/p>\n<p>The lieutenant governor announced last Wednesday at the Pacific Islands Club Saipan his intent to represent Rota at the Senate as a Republican candidate.<\/p>\n<p>He said he would also chair Gov. Ralph DLG Torres\u2019 selection committee for his lieutenant governor candidate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[Hocog] has been a trusted advisor and has taken on the responsibilities of the lieutenant governor following the passing of the late governor Eloy S. Inos, with sincerity and a willingness to do the job to his utmost ability,\u201d said Torres in a statement, adding that he believes Hocog has \u201cdone a phenomenal job and has performed a great service for the administration.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI believe he will serve the island of Rota with the same passion he has had for over 40 year,\u201d Torres added.<\/p>\n<p>According to Hocog, his vision for Rota is for it to be \u201cself-sustaining, prosperous, and successful.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy decision to run for the Senate is to ensure that we have a strong and effective Legislature in collaboration with the Executive Branch so that we can continue to provide more prosperity for every person who calls these islands home,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Hocog added that his collaboration with Torres has made \u201cthings happen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2026Seeing where we are today gives me the assurance that we as a Commonwealth are now in a better place for opportunity and prosperity,\u201d he said, adding that it was through his leadership in the Senate that made the casino and \u201cother economic opportunities\u201d happen, to make sure that \u201cretirees continue to receive their pensions and for Rota and Tinian to benefit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hocog assumed Torres\u2019 previous position of lieutenant governor in late 2015, after Inos passed away.
