{"id":266038,"date":"2017-12-07T06:06:40","date_gmt":"2017-12-06T20:06:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=266038"},"modified":"2017-12-07T06:06:40","modified_gmt":"2017-12-06T20:06:40","slug":"jkpl-celebrates-26-year-milestone","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/jkpl-celebrates-26-year-milestone\/","title":{"rendered":"JKPL celebrates 26-year milestone"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Joeten-Kiyu Public Library will be celebrating its 26 years of service this year. <\/p>\n<p>First established in 1991, the library has a lot of events planned leading to the library\u2019s celebration on Dec. 16.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, the library unveiled 12 oil paintings that were created by Eiji Itakura, who was raised on Saipan during the Sugar King era.<\/p>\n<p>According to JKPL director Erlinda Naputi, Itakura created the paintings to preserve his childhood memory and the history that Japan shares with the Commonwealth. He painted them over a span of 30 and will donate them to the CNMI Museum where locals and tourists can get a picture of how the island was liked before World War II. <\/p>\n<p>Itakura\u2019s paintings will be displayed at the library throughout December. <\/p>\n<p>The library will also be hosting a free magic camp with Leon Etienne from Dec. 27 to 29 and the public is invited to join.<\/p>\n<p>Local artists and writers are also invited to showcase their work. <\/p>\n<p>For the following year, she hopes to further expand the library\u2019s services and to bring back the brel books for the visually impaired.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Joeten-Kiyu Public Library will be celebrating its 26 years of service this year.
