{"id":266731,"date":"2017-12-19T06:00:26","date_gmt":"2017-12-18T20:00:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=266731"},"modified":"2017-12-19T06:00:26","modified_gmt":"2017-12-18T20:00:26","slug":"quartet-quantum-qualities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/quartet-quantum-qualities\/","title":{"rendered":"A quartet on quantum qualities"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>LIMERICK FOR 7 DEADLY SINS and 7 HEAVENLY VIRTUES<\/strong><br \/>\nsonnets on  seven deadly sins and heavenly virtues<br \/>\ncommonly found in government and church pews<br \/>\nconflict and hypocrisy found in some of those<br \/>\nwho mainstream and evangelic Christianity espouse<br \/>\nregardless of the most obvious contradictory views<\/p>\n<p><strong>SEVEN DEADLY SINS MINUS ONE<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>LUST<\/strong> &#8211; who do you love? who can you trust?<br \/>\ndeep pockets? big deals? big bust? late night lust<br \/>\n<strong>ENVY<\/strong> &#8211; over and over he had it all, she had more<br \/>\nout it poured, Damocles sword, kids next door<br \/>\n<strong>GLUTTONY <\/strong>&#8211; don\u2019t be afraid of it eat till your made of it<br \/>\npork roast, fried doughnuts, sugar shweets, muttony<br \/>\n<strong>GREED<\/strong> &#8211; more of this more of that more gravy more<br \/>\nfat, more money more more that will endure for sure<br \/>\n<strong>PRIDE<\/strong> &#8211; goeth before a fall, humpty dumpty straddling<br \/>\nthe non existent wall brags to all that he won\u2019t fall<br \/>\n<strong>SLOTH<\/strong> &#8211; ain\u2019t gonna work today, no prayers, no cares<br \/>\njust hanging around upside down playing on the stairs<br \/>\n<strong>MEMORY<\/strong> &#8211; loss, can\u2019t seem to remember the last one<br \/>\ngives me some more time to have a little bit of fun<br \/>\nthose first six sins have sometimes lost sometimes won <\/p>\n<p><strong>RECLAMATION of SINS LEADING TO DAMNATION<\/strong><br \/>\n(my id and ego do a self examination of my current situation)<br \/>\n<strong>GULA<\/strong> (gluttony) doing the hula getting ready to go whole hog<br \/>\non the whole roasted pig sputtering on the spit just can\u2019t quit<br \/>\n<strong>LUXURIA\/ FORNICATIO<\/strong>  (lust, fornication) lacking trust<br \/>\nloving a luxurious situation with a lack of individuation<br \/>\n<strong>AVARITIA<\/strong> (avarice, greed) I\u2019m getting it all at top speed<br \/>\nwanting more than I could want, getting more than I need<br \/>\n<strong>SUPERBIA<\/strong> (pride, hubris) me, myself, and I, what is<br \/>\nmore important than this? maybe giving my self a kiss<br \/>\n<strong>TRISTIA\/ACEDIA<\/strong> (sorrow, despair, despondency, sloth)<br \/>\nfeeling bad, not for you but me, woe is me, Bonjour Tristesse,<br \/>\n<strong>IRA<\/strong> (the Latin word for wrath) think irate, he got irate that was<br \/>\nhis sad fate. The late great American humorist Will Rogers wrote,<br \/>\n\u201c People who fly into a rage always make a bad landing.\u201d<br \/>\n<strong>VAINGLORIA\/INVIDIA<\/strong> (vainglory, envy) he worked hard, got rich,<br \/>\nI\u2019m pissed, he was fortunate, it should be me the one fortune kissed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>LESSONS OF LUST \u2013 PAST PRESENT and FUTURE<\/strong><br \/>\nIn lust we trust there is no love<br \/>\nor caring about others friends brothers sisters<br \/>\nlust subverts propriety affects fathers and mothers<br \/>\npermeates our society an unnecessary evil<br \/>\nperpetuated by the mischievous miscreants<br \/>\npracticed by slaves to the devil, are these<br \/>\nsins of flesh? are spiritual sins less grievous<br \/>\nin Dante\u2019s Purgatorio<br \/>\nthe penitent walks into flames<br \/>\nto purge himself of earthly shame<br \/>\nin Dante\u2019s Inferno unforgiven souls<br \/>\nwith lust are blown coast to coast<br \/>\nno more bragging and boasting<br \/>\non camera or texting about sexting.<\/p>\n<p><strong>7 HEAVENLY VIRTUES-VIOLATIONS, CITATIONS, SITUATIONS<\/strong><br \/>\n\u201cVirtue is the moral strength of the will in obeying the dictates of duty.\u201d\u2014Immanuel Kant (1724-1804)<br \/>\n<strong>CHASTITY<\/strong> (Castitas) our Vice President (no pun intended) Michael Pence seems to be one of the most prominent preachers of chastity in the U.S. today. Pence is the opposite of his boss who on camera brags about a sin on the opposite philosophical side of chastity, who also supports and endorses someone running for political office who like him has been accused of violating heavenly virtues and committing many  deadly sins.<br \/>\n<strong>TEMPERANCE<\/strong> (Temperantia) from Carrie Nation forward temperance in all things seems to be a healthy companion of longevity<br \/>\n<strong>CHARITY<\/strong> (Caritas) we give so others may a better life live<br \/>\n<strong>DILIGENCE<\/strong> (Industria) as sore tired muscle pain lingers from our legs up to our bony fingers<br \/>\n<strong>PATIENCE<\/strong> (Patientia) parents and teachers use daily common sense practicing patience, and patience requires patience<br \/>\n<strong>GRATITUDE <\/strong>(Humanitas) the milk of human kindness, for life, love and the pursuit of happiness something all Americans believe and profess<br \/>\n<strong>HUMILITY<\/strong> (Humilitas) having the ability and availing the possibility of letting go of the ego and admitting we don\u2019t know instead of braggadocio<\/p>\n<p><em>(These seven heavenly virtues with their original Latin names in parentheses appeared in an epic poem \u201cPsychomachia\u201d written by Aurelius Clemens Prudentius (d. 410 A.D.)
