A 71-year-old Chinese woman almost drowned last Wednesday after falling in knee-deep water in the waters off Managaha Island.<\/p>\n
The Department of Public Safety said its officers responded to a near drowning on the tourist hotspot at 10:35am Wednesday.<\/p>\n
The victim was transported from Managaha Island by a Tasi Tour boat to Smiling Cove Marina.<\/p>\n
The victim arrived at Smiling Cove at 10:56am where Boating Safety, Koban officers, and Department of Fire and Emergency Management Services personnel were standing by. <\/p>\n
The victim was transported to the Commonwealth Health Center, where she was held overnight for observation.<\/p>\n
According to her daughter, the victim was walking in \u201cknee-deep\u201d water when she suddenly fell. Although she took in a large amount of water she never lost consciousness. The victim has since been released from the hospital.<\/p>\n
A day earlier on Tuesday, a 62-year-old Chinese male drowned in the waters off Managaha Island.<\/p>\n
Zhang Shizhao was pronounced dead 12:06pm Tuesday at the CHC after resuscitation efforts to revive him failed.<\/p>\n
According to the victim\u2019s son, he along with his mother and father went into waist-deep water all wearing life jackets and began snorkeling.<\/p>\n
All of a sudden Zhang\u2019s mask came off and he began coughing. They helped him go back to shore where Zhang lost consciousness. The victim\u2019s son said his father had a heart bypass four years ago and he was using a pacemaker.
