The concept is to mount a couple of flower baskets on the lampposts along Beach Road and have private companies or groups take care of them.

According to mayor’s office special assistant Henry Hofschneider, the Saipan Mayor’s Office ordered about 100 hanging flower baskets in November and they only arrived on Saipan last Jan. 1. The baskets were cleared about a week after arrival.

The baskets are from Japan and are made of the best quality so it could withstand the island’s tough weather for a prolonged period of time, Hofschneider said.

He said the mayor’s office is expecting a visit from a professional Japanese landscape artist to brief them, and interested basket sponsors, on how to properly plant seedlings in the baskets, how to mount them, and how to properly care for them.

The Saipan Mayor’s Office is now looking for sponsors to care for the lampposts once the baskets are up. Sponsors can be businesses, agencies, a family, or even individuals who just want to help maintain the new addition to the island’s beautification project.

Sponsors will only be responsible for maintaining the basket’s aesthetic appearance and maintaining the lamppost’s surroundings. They will not be charged by the Saipan Mayor’s Office.

The mayor’s office will start mounting baskets on the lampposts starting from the Borja Funeral Home up until the intersection by the Hard Rock Café Saipan.

The entire project costs about $2,500 and was paid through public funding. Interested sponsors can call the Saipan Mayor’s Office at 234-6208 for additional information and to volunteer as sponsors.

The Saipan Mayor’s Office is moving forward with its “Adopt-a-Post” project that has been in…

[4
160,1448,1505,1507
post-268415","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-local-news","tag-beach-road","tag-borja-funeral-home","tag-henry-hofschneider","tag-saipan-mayor
["GET
