{"id":268877,"date":"2018-01-29T06:00:14","date_gmt":"2018-01-28T20:00:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=268877"},"modified":"2018-01-29T06:00:14","modified_gmt":"2018-01-28T20:00:14","slug":"mhs-sophomore-invited-west-point","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/mhs-sophomore-invited-west-point\/","title":{"rendered":"MHS sophomore invited to West Point"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Marianas High School sophomore student has been invited to apply for a slot at the West Point Military Academy.<\/p>\n<p>Julia Malate is currently a sophomore at MHS. She got the invitation to join the academy on Jan. 20, a month after she sent the academy a notice asking if she could apply as early as her sophomore year. <\/p>\n<p>Malate has always wanted to go to West Point. \u201cI wanted to be in the military academy but not just in any military academy, I wanted to strive for the best and the hardest,\u201d she said.  <\/p>\n<p>There are still a few more hoops that Malate would need to jump through. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re still going to look through my bio, then I would have to do my fitness test, and then I can go,\u201d she said<\/p>\n<p>Malate, who said she has always been focused on extracurricular activities that contribute to her health and fitness, is preparing for her SATs with her brother, Robert Malate, a former MHS student who has been accepted into Harvard. <\/p>\n<p>Before she can officially start her education at West Point, she would have to complete the required classes in order for her to graduate high school. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cMost likely they\u2019ll recommend that I take more advanced classes or maybe college classes so that by the time I get to West Point, I can just move into calculus or something higher,\u201d said Malate. <\/p>\n<p>Malate aims to start at West Point in her junior year, but if she is not able to fulfil all the requirements by junior year, she will leave for West Point in her senior year. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI didn&#8217;t know I would get this [invitation] so early but\u2026it is the college that I have been dreaming to go to,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Marianas High School sophomore student has been invited to apply for a slot at&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":24,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[4],"tags":[55,19898,365,17170],"class_list":["post-268877","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-local-news","tag-health-2","tag-julia-malate","tag-mhs","tag-robert-malate"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/268877","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/24"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=268877"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/268877\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=268877"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=268877"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=268877"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
