A man was arrested in Garapan on Saturday for allegedly buying items at several establishments using checks from a company that has been closed since 2013.<\/p>\n
Nelsin A. Saimon, 30, was served with an arrest warrant on charges of theft and possession of a forged device.<\/p>\n
At a hearing yesterday, Superior Court Associate Judge Kenneth L. Govendo imposed a $7,500 cash bail and set the preliminary hearing for Feb. 5 at 1:30pm.<\/p>\n
According to police, an officer responded to a reported misuse of bad checks at LC Market in Gualo Rai last Dec. 26.<\/p>\n
Investigation revealed that a man, later identified as Saimon, allegedly purchased $156 worth of items from the store using a check with an amount of $578 belonging to Kae Poong (Saipan) Corp. last Dec. 22.<\/p>\n
Saimon allegedly told the store employee that he works for Kae Poong Corp. He was given a change of $422.<\/p>\n
A couple of days later, LC Market called the telephone number listed on the check and was informed that Kae Poong Corp. had been out of business since 2013.<\/p>\n
Last Dec. 26, police reviewed the surveillance camera at LC Market and identified Saimon to be the person who cashed the check.<\/p>\n
