{"id":269215,"date":"2018-02-01T06:00:34","date_gmt":"2018-01-31T20:00:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=269215"},"modified":"2018-02-01T06:00:34","modified_gmt":"2018-01-31T20:00:34","slug":"coast-guard-medevacs-woman-cruise-ship-off-oahu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/coast-guard-medevacs-woman-cruise-ship-off-oahu\/","title":{"rendered":"Coast Guard medevacs woman from cruise ship off Oahu"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>HONOLULU<\/strong>\u2014A 71-year-old woman from the cruise ship Grand Princess was medevaced by the Coast Guard 14 miles south of Oahu, Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>At 1:35 a.m., an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point hoisted the woman and safely delivered her in stable condition to awaiting emergency medical personnel at The Queen\u2019s Medical Center. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s always a race against the clock trying to get passengers to a higher level of medical care,\u201d said Ensign Celesta Brosowsky, a watchstander at the Coast Guard Sector Honolulu Command Center. \u201cWe\u2019re grateful the cruise ship crew took quick action, recognizing that she needed to be medically evacuated.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Watchstanders at the Coast Guard Joint Rescue Coordination Center received a request for the medevac at 10:04 p.m., Monday, for a passenger who was experiencing stroke-like symptoms.<\/p>\n<p>The vessel was approximately 14 miles south of the Oahu at the time of the request. Watchstanders consulted the Coast Guard duty flight surgeon who recommended the medieval.<\/p>\n<p>The men and women of Air Station Barbers Point serve as \u201cGuardians of the Pacific\u201d in the largest and most culturally diverse of all Coast Guard operating areas \u2014 12.2 million square miles of open ocean, atolls, and island nations.
