Eddie Calvo and Joint Region Marianas commander Rear Adm. Shoshana Chatfield met last Feb. 7, signaling the first reconvening of the Civil-Military Coordination Council since May 2011.<\/p>\n<p>Representatives of local and federal agencies also were at the meeting at the Ricardo J. Bordallo Governor\u2019s Complex in Hagat\u00f1a.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis council provides a forum for the Department of Defense, government of Guam and federal agencies to have an open discussion regarding construction projects that affect the military and local communities,\u201d Chatfield said. \u201cWe are grateful to our partners from the government of Guam for their continued partnership, interagency coordination and the opportunity to address issues and concerns with a unified voice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Representatives of Naval Facilities Engineering Command Marianas gave an overview of military projects on U.S. Naval Base Guam, Andersen Air Force Base, and in the village of Dededo.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat\u2019s good inside the base is also good for outside the base,\u201d Calvo said during the discussion of the Four Pillars, which is commonly referred to as the One-Guam approach. \u201cA strong construction industry will ensure our island&#8217;s economy grows. And a strong economy will support a better quality of life for all of our residents.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The CMCC was created to monitor impacts and advise DOD on the pace and sequencing of proposed construction in Guam.
