{"id":269979,"date":"2018-02-13T06:06:19","date_gmt":"2018-02-12T20:06:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=269979"},"modified":"2018-02-13T06:06:19","modified_gmt":"2018-02-12T20:06:19","slug":"dpl-ipi-continue-talks-mariana-resort","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/dpl-ipi-continue-talks-mariana-resort\/","title":{"rendered":"DPL, IPI continue talks on Mariana Resort"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With about two months remaining on the lease of Mariana Resort &amp; Spa, the Department of Public Lands assures that it is in constant discussion with Imperial Pacific International (CNMI) LLC about the property\u2019s lease agreement, which expires in April 2018.<\/p>\n<p>DPL Secretary Marianne Teregeyo told Saipan Tribune yesterday that talks between IPI and DPL pertaining to the expiring lease agreement of Mariana Resort have yet to be finalized.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have not officially signed off on an actual lease. We are still negotiating on a couple of items, but it will be the [CNMI] Legislature that will approve that lease,\u201d Teregeyo told Saipan Tribune.<\/p>\n<p>Teregeyo said there were a couple of considerations on the fate of the Mariana Resort property should the lease expire without a DPL-IPI lease agreement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2026We\u2019ve put in a contingency plan and I [believe] we are about to publish a bid for security services and maintenance services in the meantime,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are also considering the possibility of a management contract, but there is nothing formal on the table yet,\u201d said Teregeyo adding that the contract can be between DPL and those interested. \u201cIt does not have to be just IPI. There are many options.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Teregeyo hopes that there won\u2019t be a need for a contingency plan and have a lease with IPI by then.<\/p>\n<p>Mariana Resort is a four-star hotel situated on a 1,653-hectare plot in the northern area of Saipan and was built back on Feb. 1, 1975.
