Fiesta Resort & Spa Saipan and Kanoa Resort, both divisions of TanHoldings Corp., have signed up as the newest sponsors of the Micronesia Islands Nature Alliance\u2019s Adopt-a-Bin Program.<\/p>\n
Herman\u2019s Modern Bakery Inc. has also signed up as a sponsor of the bin at Obyan Beach, a popular dive spot and favorite location for weekend picnics and family outings. <\/p>\n
Fiesta Resort general manager Wendi Herring said the opportunity to partner up with Kanoa Resort for sponsorship of MINA\u2019s recycling bin at Sugar Dock is just one of the many ways in which their corporate responsibility extends to the community. <\/p>\n
\u201cAs hospitality professionals, we feel that our participation in this program as sponsors allows MINA to continue to push the message of recycling and keeping our island clean, for residents and tourists alike,\u201d Herring said.<\/p>\n
Martin Jambor, general manager for Kanoa Resort, echoed Herring\u2019s sentiment. \u201cWe take pride in our company\u2019s dedication to keeping this area clean and litter-free. We are also the sponsors for the Sugar Dock Adopt-a-Beach Program, so MINA\u2019s bin at Sugar Dock is a perfect fit.\u201d<\/p>\n
As the oldest local business organization on Saipan, Herman\u2019s Bakery takes pride in the island and welfare of the community, and is happy to continue to contribute to maintaining its pristine beauty, for locals and tourists alike, said Ana G. Hayes, general manager. <\/p>\n
\u201cOur land is our home,\u201d she said. \u201cWe\u2019re here for the long haul, and feel that part of our responsibility is to give back to the community. MINA\u2019s program is one that we feel very strongly about, and one that allows us to contribute in a way that adds to the quality of life here on the islands. We\u2019re now in the third generation of management at Herman\u2019s, and the fourth generation is coming up learning about responsibility for the environment; they will definitely be included in our semi-annual cleanup of the Obyan Beach bin area.\u201d<\/p>\n
Bin sponsorship is a vital component of the program, and covers the expense for the weekly collection and transfer service, as well as semi-annual cleanups by their corporate volunteers. <\/p>\n
Now in its eighth year, the program has 20 bins located in strategic locations throughout the island, which is a benefit for beach-goers as the receptacle for recyclable items. Data collected at the transfer station reflects that more than 28 tons of trash were collected over the last two-year period, a reflection on the effectiveness of the program, which keeps land-based sources of pollutants out of the waters of the lagoon.<\/p>\n
Bin sponsorship, a vital component of the program, pays for the weekly collection and transfer service, as well as bi-annual cleanups by their corporate volunteers, according to MINA executive director Roberta Guerrero. <\/p>\n
\u201cSponsors are what make any program a success, and it is particularly gratifying to know that our work is supported by organizations such as Fiesta Resort & Spa and Kanoa Resort, who believe in the work that we do,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n
MINA has four more bins for sponsorship: San Antonio Beach, Laly 4, Paupau Beach (north), and Marine Beach\u2014which will bring all 20 into full support by the community. <\/p>\n
