Before that, on Sunday, at 6:32am, a 4.9-magnitude earthquake jolted an area 69 miles east of Pagan.<\/p>\n
Last Wednesday, March 7, a 5.1-magnitude earthquake occurred 19 miles southwest of Pagan. <\/p>\n
Five earthquakes recently occurred near Rota and Saipan in a week.<\/p>\n
U.S. Geological Survey seismologist Aaron G. Wech earlier told Saipan Tribune that the recent earthquakes were the result of the Pacific plate colliding with and sinking beneath the Philippine Sea plate.<\/p>\n
