A 66-year-old retiree was sentenced to four years and six months in prison for sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl on Rota. <\/p>\n
Superior Court Associate Judge Robert C. Naraja sentenced Manases Masga Manglona Sr. to five years imprisonment, all suspended except for four years and six months, for sexual assault in the second degree.<\/p>\n
Manglona will serve the sentence without the possibility of parole. He was given credit for 554 days of time served.<\/p>\n
There will be another hearing on April 19, 2018, on Manglona\u2019s motion to convert up to one year and six months of his prison term to home confinement.<\/p>\n
After completing his jail term, Manglona will be placed on 10 years of probation. He shall have no unsupervised contact with minors, among other conditions.<\/p>\n
Naraja held the sentencing hearing on Rota last Feb. 23. He issued the written judgment last Friday.<\/p>\n
Although he described Manglona\u2019s crime as extremely serious and egregious, Naraja said that Manglona is not completely without hope. <\/p>\n
Therefore, he said, Manglona\u2019s probation will allow him to rebuild his life, which he laid waste by committing this terrible crime.<\/p>\n
Assistant attorney general Teri C. Tenorio had recommended a maximum prison sentence of five years and six months, without the possibility of parole.<\/p>\n
Assistant public defender Nancy Dominski recommended a sentence of two years imprisonment with the rest suspended, along with probation and corresponding conditions. Dominksi said Manglona did not hold down the victim or threaten her in any way, and that he never penetrated her.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere were no physical injuries,\u201d Dominski said.<\/p>\n
