A man arrested last December for trafficking methamphetamine or \u201cice\u201d pleaded guilty yesterday to illegal possession of a controlled substance. <\/p>\n
Raymond DLG King, 52, waived a presentence investigation report. He will be sentenced on May 16.<\/p>\n
Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho <\/p>\n
noted that King has a prior conviction for theft by failure to make required disposition of funds received. <\/p>\n
After the hearing, Camacho remanded King into the custody of the Department of Corrections pending his sentencing.<\/p>\n
King was one of six persons arrested for trafficking and illegal possession of methamphetamine in separate operations by the CNMI Drug Enforcement Task Force and Drug Enforcement Administration in early December 2017.<\/p>\n
Last Dec. 12, the Office of the Attorney General filed an information charging King with two counts of trafficking of a controlled substance and two counts of illegal possession of a controlled substance. The charges carry a total maximum sentence of 60 years imprisonment.<\/p>\n
Last March 8, the OAG amended the charges against King to one count of illegal possession of a controlled substance. The offense carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison.<\/p>\n
King, who is represented by assistant public defender Nancy Dominski, signed a plea deal with the government\u2019s counsel, assistant attorney general Chester Hinds.<\/p>\n
According to the factual basis of the plea deal, King was caught with about 0.6 gross grams of crystal methamphetamine on Nov. 27, 2017 on Saipan.<\/p>\n
A Drug Enforcement Task Force agent said that their \u201ccooperating source\u201d was able to purchase from King $180 worth of \u201cice\u201d and $180 more worth of \u201cice\u201d during \u201cbuy-walk\u201d operations in Chalan Kanoa last Nov. 27 and 28.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
