{"id":273025,"date":"2018-04-02T06:06:46","date_gmt":"2018-04-01T20:06:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=273025"},"modified":"2018-04-02T06:06:46","modified_gmt":"2018-04-01T20:06:46","slug":"typhoon-weakens-passes-near-agrihan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/typhoon-weakens-passes-near-agrihan\/","title":{"rendered":"Typhoon weakens as it passes near Agrihan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Jelawat peaked late Saturday night as a super typhoon but weakened to a tropical storm as it continued barreling yesterday toward the Northern Islands. <\/p>\n<p>Moving east-northeast at 14 miles per hour with maximum sustained winds of 45 mph, Tropical Storm Jelawat\u2019s center at 1pm yesterday was only 35 miles north-northwest of Agrihan and 85 miles north-northwest of Pagan. <\/p>\n<p>According to the U.S. National Weather Service Guam, Jelawat is weakening rapidly as of 1pm and could soon be downgraded to a tropical depression.<\/p>\n<p>As of 8am yesterday, a tropical storm warning was in effect for Agrihan and Pagan as Jelawat was moving east at 10 miles per hour, with maximum sustained winds of 60 mph.<\/p>\n<p>Jelawat did not pose a threat to Saipan, Tinian, and Rota.<\/p>\n<p>A tropical storm warning means tropical storm conditions including damaging winds of 39 mph to 73 mph are expected within the next 24 hours. <\/p>\n<p>Jelawat was expected to pass around 25 miles north of Agrihan late Sunday night or early this morning, Monday.<\/p>\n<p>NWS also issued yesterday high surf advisories for north and west facing reefs of Saipan, Tinian, Rota, and Guam as large swells from Jelawat across the region.<\/p>\n<p>NWS said Jelawat remains a very disorganized tropical storm as vertical wind shear continues to wreak havoc on its storm structure.<\/p>\n<p>As of 7am yesterday, the center of the storm was 125 miles west of Agrihan, 135 miles of west-northwest of Pagan, and 280 miles northwest of Saipan. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jelawat peaked late Saturday night as a super typhoon but weakened to a tropical storm&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":23,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[4],"tags":[541,758,20647],"class_list":["post-273025","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-local-news","tag-northern-islands","tag-nws","tag-tropical-storm-jelawat"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/273025","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/23"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=273025"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/273025\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=273025"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=273025"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=273025"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
