The Non-Communicable Disease Bureau has completed their Adopt-A-Pavilion and Adopt-A-Bus Stop in which they strive to promote health through messaging in the community. <\/p>\n
NCDB adopted the Oleai Pavilion located by The Shack. This project was completed in partnership with the Community Guidance Center-Hali Inaguiya Systems of Care. Alongside the organization, 30 students from Marianas High School\u2019s National Honor Society volunteered their time. <\/p>\n
The pavilion was painted with information to promote health and health literacy related to the risks of non-communicable diseases, a leading cause of death in the CNMI. These messages included information on health eating, physical activity, quitting tobacco-use, and getting regular health screenings. The NCD Bureau emphasizes that even simple lifestyle changes can greatly reduce the risks for NCDs.<\/p>\n
The Community Guidance Center-Systems of Care promotional message, \u201cit\u2019s just a bad day, not a bad life\u201d aims to raise awareness about mental health. One of SOC\u2019s program goal is to raise awareness by promoting positive messages to decrease the stigma on mental health. SOC\u2019s mission is to promote the improvement of care and opportunity for youth with, and youth at-risk of emotional\/behavioral challenges through improved collaboration between youth and family serving groups.<\/p>\n
The NCD Bureau partnered with Dandan Midle School\u2019s AmeriCorps members, Collin Flores and Ruth Pangelinan, to adopt the bus stop across Jin Li Store in Dandan village. The bus stop design and painting were spearheaded by Flores and Pangelinan with guidance and assistance from their advisors, the NCD Bureau, and Dandan Middle School\u2019s National Honor Society members. Flores and Pangelinan chose a Pac-Man theme for the bus stop, which they used to encourage healthy eating through increased fruits and vegetable daily intake. <\/p>\n
